Random Thoughts – Part 1

I felt like I wanted to have a post for today, but like everyone else, am beginning to feel somewhat overwhelmed by the list of things I want to get done before Saturday. So I thought I’d bring you in for a little unorganized rambling.

Barbecue as a Gift

How many of you give some sort of barbecue as a gift? I’m intending on doing just this. I find that I get really excited when I receive this sort of gift – whether its tools or rubs and sauces or even serving barbecue as the holiday feast. By the way, I wear a size 20 lb beef brisket, if anyone’s wondering.

Sasquash Burger Press

I recently received one of these from my friends at the Barbecue Lab – before Big Meaty’s was even a thing. Since receiving it, I have made so many smash burgers. I love this thing. The whole concept of a smashburger is something I’ve been playing with as of late. Its easy, its simple, and its delicious. The prep still matters here, but there’s something about that char on the burger that just makes it pop.

Meat Thermometers

I’ve been looking at lot into these lately. I have a couple of inexpensive ones, but they don’t really fit my needs, as you really need to be at or around the grill in order to use them well. The Masterbuilt Gravity Series that I purchased earlier this year has a built in thermometer, complete with probe. The problem is, the app that controls all of this, sucks. I actually need to call Masterbuilt about another issue I’m having with it, but the way I’ve been thinking about it lately, because this is an issue, it opens up some possibilities to find a better thermometer that fits my needs. There will be more on that as it develops.

Final Thoughts

I’ve got such an itch to uncover the grill and start working on some tasty stuff to share with y’all. But, with the schedule and the weather, it’ll have to wait until at least after Christmas. In the meantime, thanks for stopping by and reading through my nonsense.
